For experienced grade 5 rafters with a high fitness level and strong swimming ability only. This is a long and demanding trip with steep drops and long rapid sections with a few portages – this river is not for the faint of heart! The Perth river flows into the Whataroa and is the most demanding commercially rafted river in NZ. This is low volume creek rafting at its finest and is probably the gnarliest commercially rafted river in the world with the added bonus of deep schist canyons and crystal water. Please book at the Information/DOC centre on the main road in Franz Josef, or contact us directly by phone or email. We raft over 16 different rivers across the coast, so our meeting location varies from day to day. Our most popular river is the Whataroa, found 25 minutes North of Franz Josef. Direction as follows. Drive North from Franz Josef-Drive through the township of Whataroa-approx 5 kms after Whataroa you will see the Whataroa River. BEFORE you drive over the bridge you will see a right hand turn down a gravel road marked as ‘tourist attractions’. Take that right and drive 1 km down the gravel road to the car park. Easy to find!

Itinerary
We meet at 10 am and fly up the Whataroa Valley via helicopters, approximately a 15 minute fly with beautiful glacial views. We spend around 5 hours on the water, stop for a riverside lunch and an optional cliff jump/canyon swim and return to the meeting point at around 4pm.

Exclusions
transportation to and from the river from your accommodation – although this can be arranged if requested.
Please Note
This river is not for the faint of heart – previous rafting experience is a must and guests must be reasonalbly fit and decent swimmers.
Cancellation policy
If cancelled up to 3 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the entire activity price may be charged.
