It has a demanding portage around a huge rapid called the ‘Roaring Lion’, 2 massive grade 5 rapids and a heap of grade 3-4 water. Grade 3-5 depending on flow, world class fishing for trophy brown trout. The middle reaches are a no landing zone for helicopters so we can access fishing spots that usually require a heli flight and 2 days of walking to get to. If you are an avid fisherman you have got to do this trip –incredible whitewater acton and adventure fishing at its best. From $1500pp, min age 16.

Please book at the Information/DOC centre on the main road in Franz Josef, or contact us directly by phone or email. We raft over 16 different rivers across the coast, so our meeting location varies from day to day. Our most popular river is the Whataroa, found 25 minutes North of Franz Josef. Direction as follows. Drive North from Franz Josef-Drive through the township of Whataroa-approx 5 kms after Whataroa you will see the Whataroa River. BEFORE you drive over the bridge you will see a right hand turn down a gravel road marked as ‘tourist attractions’. Take that right and drive 1 km down the gravel road to the car park. Easy to find!

Itinerary
The Karamea can be rafted as a 1,3 or 5 day option. We can tailor the trip to suit your itinerary.
Inclusions
Fully catered (food and drinks), all rafting and camping equipment including tents, photo and video clips.
Exclusions
Sleeping bags and mats, although these can be rented.
Please Note
Minimum age of 16 and must be able to swim. No previous rafting experience necessary.
Cancellation policy
If cancelled up to 3 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the entire activity price may be charged.
