Technical grade 3-4 half day heli-rafting. Incredible rock formation and schist gorges, clear blue water. This is lower volume technical rafting and is quite exciting as we need to really work together as a team to avoid getting stuck on rocks or surfed in one of the many medium sized surf-holes. Close to the town of Hokitika and packed full of Jade and serpentine rock this river is a little gem and a great intro to grade 4 white water. Free photos and video clips, lunch and snacks provided. Please book at the Information/DOC centre on the main road in Franz Josef, or contact us directly by phone or email. We raft over 16 different rivers across the coast, so our meeting location varies from day to day. Our most popular river is the Whataroa, found 25 minutes North of Franz Josef. Direction as follows. Drive North from Franz Josef-Drive through the township of Whataroa-approx 5 kms after Whataroa you will see the Whataroa River. BEFORE you drive over the bridge you will see a right hand turn down a gravel road marked as ‘tourist attractions’. Take that right and drive 1 km down the gravel road to the car park. Easy to find!

Itinerary
We meet at 9 am in Hokitika and drive inland to the lower Hokitika gorge where we meet the helicopter. We fly up river and have a safety briefing and paddling instructions. We spend around 3 hours on the water stopping for a riverside lunch and an optional clff jump. We return to the vehicle in the early afternoon.

Please Note
Minimum age 14 and must be able to swim. No previous rafting experience necessary.
Cancellation policy
If cancelled up to 3 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the entire activity price may be charged.
