DAY 1 - Rucu Pichincha – 4700m /15500ft - . We will see the change in vegetation through paramo grasslands to sandy-ash from the several volcanic eruptions which date back to 1500 and has become part of Quito's main attraction for hikers. Night hotel in Quito

DAY 2 - Cayambe Glacier - After breakfast we drive approx 2 hours and then acclimatization hike to the Cayambe refuge located at 4600m /15200 ft. Our support vehicle will take all our gear while we gain altitude on the Cayambe foothills. Cayambe is the only place in the world where the Equator line crosses below the summit of glacier volcano where its latitude and temperature are zero. Once we arrive at the refuge we will review rope techniques, knots, prussiks , self rescue, and prepare our personal climbing gear for a training day on the glacier . This day we put in practice the well known rule of working high and sleeping low by gaining 1000 ft. to the entrance of the glacier for a better night sleep at the hut.

DAY 3 - Cayambe Ice School - During the morning we will hike to the glacier to review climbing skills ; snow and ice crampon techniques as well as rope glacier travelling, self arrest , different belaying systems , rescue crevasse techniques systems and anchors , which will be used for our safe summit attempts on the normal routes of our main peaks.

DAY 4 - Ice school – After breakfast we will practice the new techniques we have learned, route finding on a glacier and ice climbing. Return to Quito.
