Stand up paddleboarding (SUP), is an ancient form of surfing originating in Polynesia. More recently it has been growing in popularity as a fun and accessible way to enjoy both the surf and flat water.

An SUP is like an oversized surfboard that you stand on from the start and hold a single bladed paddle to move yourself forwards. It’s easier to learn than surfing because you start by standing up and the boards are big and stable.

At Pointbreaks we will provide you with a fun introduction to the sport. Our instructors will take you through the basics of paddleboarding and the safety aspects on dry land before entering the water. Your first experience will be on calm, flat waters to get used to staying upright and using the paddle. We have a variety of stunning locations around North Devon to teach you, depending on what the sea conditions are like.

Once you have mastered the basics and are feeling confident we can take you to the waves to have a go at surfing the SUPs onto the beach. We guarantee that you will be standing and riding a board in no time enjoying this amazing water sport and the beautiful coastline.

Please note that sea conditions and swell size may mean that it is not always possible for beginners to take the SUPs wave surfing.

Maximum group size for this activity is 4 people. If you have a larger group we can mix and match the SUPs with our kayaks and alternate so that you can all have a go.
