We are open 7 days a week and our school is based at Shorncliffe, 15minutes north of Brisbane’s airport. Lessons normally take place at Sandgate Beach, it is the beach next to Sandgate Swimming Pool on Flinders Parade, between the 7th & 8th Avenue, Sandgate. Both Shorncliffe and Sandgate is a direct train ride from city central. We offer pick up service from airports and all major hotels and backpackers in Brisbane. Please enquire for details.

Surf Connect is the only accredited school in Brisbane that is affiliated with Yachting Australia (YA) and the International Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO). Our affiliation can be viewed at http://www.yachting.org.au/db/RTEdisplay.asp?ID=516128&Action=Display. We have 15 resident instructors, and are all fully qualified, first aiders, and blue card holders. Our school is covered by a $20m PL insurance. Your instructor's certificate and insurance certificate will be shown to you at the beginning of your lesson. We are also the official provider of all Brisbane City Council, Gold Coast City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council as well as the Pine River City Council's Wind & Kitesurfing activities programs. These include the Get Active, Real Adventure Women, Chill Out, Gold, Gold & Kids, and the Vibe programs. We also teach a number of local schools and the cadets.

All lessons are run in accordance to the IKO training program (www.ikointl.com). An IKO card will be issued to you at the end of the lesson. The card show your level of competency, and at any IKO Centres around the world, you have access to rental, insurance and a lot more of other benefits. Full details can be found at the IKO website.

During the lessons you will learn all the skills required for the sport, from theory, to getting up on the board riding. Most people normally take 4 to 6 hours to grasp all the basic skills, and learn to get up on the board. If it is your first lesson, we will start off with 15minutes of safety and theory, then 15 minutes of trainer kite on the beach. The rest of the lesson is all hands on practical and in the water. In a typical 3 hour lesson, most people progress to getting up on the board. There is no need to waste money to buy a trainer kite as you will develop the flying skills within minutes. If you have experience such as wakeboarding, waterskiing, snowboarding, windsurfing, surfing or even skateboarding, it will accelerate the learning curve. But you do not need any experience nor great physical strength. Most of the time you are hooked in the harness so your body takes the weight of the kite. We have many girls and kids participating in the sport.

Cost of lesson is on specials at present: $160 for a 2 hour "One-on-One" Lesson, $200 for 3 hours, or $280 for a 4 hour program (2 hour in the morning, lunch break, then 2 in the arvo). You can also accumulate all you spent on lessons with us and use them as credits towards the purchase of your new kite set! Maximum discount is of 3 lessons, whether 2, 3 or 4 hour lessons you have taken. You could save upto $280x3=$840! However, you need to purchase within a month after your last lesson. This offer applies to the purchase of a complete set of gear (kite, board and harness). If only purchasing a kite, or a board only, a 15% discount will be given.

Kitesurfing is an extreme sport that requires professional tuition. It is not a sport that you can learn on your own. We also recognise your learning by the issue of an IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) card at the end of your lesson. This card is valid worldwide and just like the diving scheme. Show your card at any kiting centre to get access to rental gear, insurance and a lot more benefits.

Our school also have plenty of new and used gear available for sale, starting from $100 for a trainer kite. Anything to do with kitesurfing we have in store, from kites to wetsuits, even car roofracks!

All equipment required for the lesson will be provided. You just need to bring:

- Long sleeve shirt

- Wetsuit if required (we can provide you with wetsuit if you do not have one)
- Cap or hat
- Suncream

- Sunnies
- Towel

A word of warning - kitesurfing is extremely fun and highly addictive. It will pump you with great adrenalin!
